HMA's welcome message
Welcome to the website of the UK delegation to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The debate about globalisation has never been more intense. People all over the world are asking: What do the changes in the global economy mean for my family and my job? What will the world look like for my grandchildren -and their grandchildren? How can we protect our environment while achieving the standards of living to which we aspire?
The OECD is at the centre of the international community's attempts to find answers to these questions. For nearly fifty years, it has been a unique forum where experts from all over the world, from developed countries and increasingly from developing countries too, get together to share ideas and best practice - on the basis of rigorous, objective economic analysis.
The OECD family, which includes a range of other bodies such as the International Energy Agency and the Nuclear Energy Agency to name but two, is going through a period of exciting change. This includes opening up to new members and developing a much closer relationship with the emerging economies that are increasingly driving global economic growth in the 21st century. It is producing groundbreaking work on issues ranging from family policies to how to decrease carbon emissions from our cars or houses, to ways in which governments can successfully implement difficult reforms. Take a look at the OECD's web-site www.oecd.org. It is packed with useful information on these and many other subjects which will shape our lives for decades to come.
In short, this is a great time to be British Ambassador to the OECD. Please contact me if you have any thoughts on this web-site or any aspects of the UK's relationship with the OECD.
