Agriculture

OECD work on agriculture and food analyses the effects, costs and benefits of government interventions in these sectors and seeks to provide advice to governments on practical and innovative options for policy reform and trade liberalisation. A key element of the work tracks and measures subsidies, support and protection to agriculture.

Effective and sustainable management of fisheries resources - a priority for international action and fisheries - is also an important topic addressed in the OECD.

The joint HM Treasury and DEFRA Vision for the Common Agricultural Policy published in December 2005 drew in part on a broad range of OECD research work over a number of years in reaching its conclusions.

The OECD - FAO agricultural outlook also addresses the question of the growing demand for bio-fuels, and their impact on agricultural prices.
