OECD governance
Whilst the UK recognises the importance of the OECD, it also strives to ensure the organisation continues to modernise and become more effective. To this end, the FCO Institutional Strategy Paper sets out several objectives to ensure the UK gets the best out of an efficient, successful OECD. These objectives are;
- Maintaining and improving the quality of outputs so as to reflect the OECD’s comparative advantage and mesh with UK policy priorities.
- Ensuring the OECD is an effective institution.
- Enhancing the relevance of the OECD as a global player.
The delegation plays a vital role in achieving these objectives, whether by pushing for a better prioritisation of work in line with the FCO’s strategic priorities, or by encouraging the OECD to ensure that areas such as human resource management and audit conform to international best practice.
